How does the foster care system work?

07 October 2022 · Articles · FAQs · New to fostering

The foster care system takes care of those children whose biological parents cannot raise them because of various reasons. The system places such children in foster homes and tries to resolve the problems that caused them to separate from their families. Oftentimes, these children have experienced unsafe conditions, abuse, neglect or who have parents who are unable to care for them. Foster care is well regulated, as you would expect. The legal framework includes statutory guidance, fostering regulations and National Minimum Standards. They all influence and govern how local authorities and independent agencies organise foster care.
